AFSCME LOCAL 1550
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSMCE), AFL-CIO, is the nation’s largest and fastest growing public service employee’s union, with more than 1.6 million members. As an AFSCME member, you become part of a local union consisting of the coworkers in your office, institution, department or community. AFSCME has more than 3,500 local unions in 46 states, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Our International Union, based in Washington, D.C., coordinates the union’s actions on major national issues such as privatization, health care and work safety. It also carries out certain national functions such as representing us in the U.S. Congress and coordinating political activities for federal elections. The International provides our local with political support, research and training. AFSCME is proud to be one of the 64 unions that are part of the AFL-CIO.

That’s why we stand together at AFSCME Local 1550 to advocate for fairness in the workplace, safety on the job, fair wages, good benefits, a secure retirement, and excellence in public services. We fight for fairness in our communities and in the halls of government.
LIFE IS BETTER IN A UNION

It’s called the “union difference,” and it’s about being shown the respect and dignity you deserve for everything you do for your community.
